Hi-lighted Member

Hancock County Arts is excited to introduce you or reintroduce you to Janet Darling. Janet Darling is an oil painting artist in Greenfield, IN.

"What I love about oils is everything. They way they feel when you mix the colors, the way each layer of paint reacts with the next layer, that you can come back later and softer or even remove a layer of paint. You really can'€™t do that with any other painting medium.

Unlike some artists, I did not discover art until later in life. It was one of the biggest blessings I'€™ve ever received for many reasons. The biggest being, because I am ADHD, and my brain is generally going in many different directions, but when I paint, I get peace. It is soothing for my soul.

In 2008 I began teaching painting out of a small church in New Palestine. Some of my first students I still see every week. I am very proud of how many friendships have been formed through the

years. And I smile when one has a birthday, and others share a picture from one of the classes in remembrance of the time they spent learning to paint.

Besides painting, I love spending time with my husband, 8 sons and their families (including our 11 grandchildren), our 2 rescue dogs, and our 2 parakeets at our Greenfield home. I also enjoy spending hours outside tending to my roses. Which are one of my favorite painting subjects."

Janet is a volunteer for Hancock County Arts and is the heart in our social media. If you know of places we need to be socially, she is the one who can do it, just let us know.

A "Pause for Words"

Sunny Disposition

Our Indiana spring is in bloom!

It brings Hoosier happiness –

those redbud trees bursting bright

magenta buds amid multi-colored green leaves.

Flowers popping out of the drab ground

peddling their yellow, pink or purple petals.

Northern cardinals serenade us with chirps and tweets,

a plea to open our windows, shed bulky winter clothes,

and enjoy this moment before it goes.

So many exciting things coming, Volunteers, check www.signUpGenius.com and join us.

Jr. Advisory Council created for 12 - 19 y/o, tell HCA where we need to go. We met quite a few young artists, at the

All Hancock All School Art Exhibit at New Palestine HS, who are interested. We will be contacting you. Thanks.

June 10, 11 - 5, In the Living Alley,

We have a tent reserved and are looking for artist members to bring some crafts for interactive activities with the children and adults. We can provide supplies, let us know what you need.

July 29, 9 - 5, Pennsy Trail Art Festival:

We have a large area reserved and are looking for artist members to help, bring some crafts for interactive activities with the hundreds of visitors. We have face painting, doggie paw painting, and an acoustic guitar playing. If members have something you would like to promote that day, send an email and we can fit you in. One of the best festivals for music and art.

  • Needed: Volunteers for Saturdays in June and July, to cover our vacations.

  • Needed: Gladys Cravits: The Board is looking for a volunteer to search Social Media sites of other Indiana Art Galleries. This information would be used as a base for determining future offerings/events for the 20N Gallery.

  • Needed: Electric leaf blower to keep our front and back areas clear and welcoming!

  • Needed: Light Bulbs to update our gallery to Day Light Bulbs.

  • Needed: Laser Copy Paper

  • Needed: Starting a Monthly Art Lecture/Chat series. Can you help?
