Art development in junior high and high school plays a vital role in nurturing creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking during formative years. Through art, students learn to communicate ideas, explore their individuality, and develop problem-solving skills in innovative ways. It fosters emotional growth by providing an outlet for self-discovery and stress relief, while also building confidence as students see their skills evolve.
Additionally, engaging in art education helps students appreciate diverse perspectives and cultures, laying a foundation for empathy and open-mindedness that benefits them in all aspects of life.
____________
A "Pause for Words"
The Imposition of a Dream
Bird beak jaws twinge against baby monkey foreheads
when I brush my finger across their rubber cheeks.
A haughty turn over their shoulder to rest on their side,
sighing stubborn sleep through little flute throats.
When they were infants, I cheered them for learning to roll.
My hands dust the strands of hair at their temple;
skin so soft I can see their thoughts pulse beneath.
What do their dreams tell them? That
there is a hand to guide, comfort, and hold them, or
that there is a fly that needs swatting away?
